1) 2003; Hobbs, Angela; The Sick House Survival Guide; Simple Steps to a Healthier Home, new Society Publishers - the BEST reference guide for anyone thinking that they may be ill from there environment. A good read and very practical. Sadly, not much has changed since 2003!
2) 2007; Blanc, Paul D., How Everyday products make People Sick, University of California Press - very detailed and technical, home and workplace application
3) 2010; Boyd, David R.; Dodging the Toxic Bullet; how to protect yourself from everyday environmental health hazards, Greystone Books, Vancouver Canada - a Canadian book, very thorough, accurate and well written; I would recommend this to everyone!
4) 2008; Shabecoff, Philip, Shabecoff, Alice; Poisoned Profits; the Toxic Assault on our Children, Random House - a well researched and well-written book with good ideas and tips especially for young families
5) 2010; Davis, Derva; Disconnect - a level-headed approach to looking at the issues and information about cell phones, wireless, and WiFi
6) July 2010; Milham, Samuel; Dirty Electricity; Electrification and the Diseases of Civilization - a good historical epidemiology read, plus, it's short and easy to finish!
Favourite videos and documentaries
A new listing of favourites about the future of earth and where the human species is going -interesting and thought provoking:
1) Prophets
of Doom,(94 min). Six intelligent, learned men who are considered contemporary
prophets (Michael Ruppert, Dr. Nathan Hagens, John Cronin, James Howard
Kuntsler, Dr. Hugo De Garis, and executive editor Robert Gleason) discuss predictions
about the state of the world economic collapse, water, peak oil, robots, and
nuclear terrorism.
2) The Quantum Activist, (2:38:50).
Amit Gaswami, also of What the Bleep de we
know (a movie).
3) Zeitgeist, the movie (2:00:27). The Zeitgeist movement (several other documentaries)
These should be mandatory viewing for everyone who cares about human health & Earth:
1) Video from "Priya means Love"showing you how easy it is to make personal care products. This video is of Priya making her products at a workshop hosted by Grassroots. Photo to right shows the WONDERFUL salve that we made at the workshop held at Grassroots. It's so easy anyone can make it. No need to buy any more commercial body cream. Cheaper and you can use premium ingredients.
2) "Flow: For Love of Water" (2008) 93 min. -Water is the very essence of life, sustaining every being on the planet. 'Flow' confronts the disturbing reality that our crucial resource is dwindling and greed just may be the cause
3) "The Story of Cosmetics" (2010) 7 min. - Exposing the ugly truth about personal care products – brought to you by the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, Annie Leonard’s Story of Stuff Project, and Free Range Studios.You can help by sharing the video, and lobbying for change (sign the Environmental Defense "Just Beautiful" petition).
5) "Controlling our Food" (2007), 1 hr, 49 min.
- about Monsanto, Genetically modified crops, and Bovine Growth hormones:
6) "Chemerical" (2009) - about a family who gives up commercial cleaners and personal care products. Created by Andrew Niskar, film-maker (of the film "Garbage"), this film is funny and entertaining, and it will help you make some changes that will improve your health.

I often get asked about radon, but it doesn't seem to be on most people's radar. Here's a short video showing how radon can be controlled. I've just finished my CERTI radon course and am about to get tested (and then pay more fees) to become NEHA certified!
